Dover - Dunkirque is just a tad under 2 hours. I did it in November.    ps. spinning the (back) wheels up makes an EPIC noise inside the car deck  ;D

Norfolk Line run some nicer, much newer ferries. Used it myself, but its much longer than Dover-Calais.

Yea it is a lil longer. Didnt bother us though because we were heading to Antwerp in Belgium so was close  :y

Its a shame there isnt much outside space on the ferries though, and the bits that are there are full of smokers  :-/

My dad and I got stopped on the way back some years ago by HM Customs and they confiscated everything including the car which cost £300 to get back.
Under EU law you are legally entitiled to buy as much tobacco/alcohol as you like as long as the VAT has been paid. The British Customs interpretation however is still to enforce a personal allowance and if you can't prove the goods are for your own consumption then they will consficate them.....it's not worth it.
