if you are happy doing 20 mph , why have you purchased a 3 litre v6 power monster and not a 2.0 ? the whole idea of a 3.0 v6 with a sports button is , well , erm , isnt it to go FAST ?

Yes... And I do go fast! Faster than I should :-X :-X But on the open road, in areas where it is safer. Built up areas, schools etc are not appropriate areas. As I have said before, 30, 40 and 50mph limits are there for reason (normally a very good reason) but, in an area of national speed limit people should be able to drive to the conditions :y

And for the record, I never use the speedo as more than just a quick glance ;) I judge my speed on what's going on outside the car vehicle as I am sure you are equally capable of doing with your extensive driving experience ::) ::)

I agree with your comment that people should look more carefully when they cross the road but the fact of the matter is that they don't. As all 3 of my driving instructors (car, motorbike, HGV) and, for that matter my flying instructor, told me... You are in control of a lethal weapon, you should respect that weapon ;) :y

thats very very true , but in fairness they tell you that on any vehicle or equipment course , and for good reason , my point is exactly that , you should be the one to decide what your safe speed should be , as a pilot sureley you appreciate the fact that once you have left the ground and achieved your altitude you are pretty much free to go as fast or as slow as you choose depending on what flightplans you have filed and airspace you are entering , the guys who iknow who go flying , and ride bikes for that fact do these things partly because it free's them of all these constraints , go slow , watch child , old people crossing etc .

Yes, exactly the point! Once you are away from other people ;) ;) And, incidentally, you still have to obey speed limits, rules and regulations in a plane too ;) ;)

The only point I was trying to make is that if I had been exceeding the speed limit, I would have probably have killed the kid, how could I live with that, even if it was his fault?

I only hope he has learned a lesson, as I mentioned before, this particular road is used as a race track.

The residents have been partitioning for a speed camera for some time, I wish the powers that be would install one!

The thing that bugs me is all the onus is now placed on the driver "Slow down speed kills" type adverts. Now, don't get me wrong, of course I'm not condonning running kids over but what ever happened to Tufty and the Green Cross Man? Are kids still taught such things in schools? It seems that the car and the motorist are made out to be the bad guy all the time, after all, I don't drive on the pavements! As has been said, why is it that some people try and cross busy roads just a few yards from pedestrian crossings? What are they, suicidal?? Every one's seen parents dragging their kids across the roads at most inappropriate places. I just feel as though education should be aimed at both sides not just the wicked car driver!

Very much so, and, above everything else, LOOK OUT! You might not have kids between parked cars to worry about, but anything you do come across will be moving fast, and will hit hard.

Ahh yes, halcyon days those! :y
These days the little ratbags just walk into the road without so much as a sideways glance, DARING you to get too close! It is like the ultimate game of 'Chicken' when passing a school at chucking out time! :o
