Twiglet, I thought there were two plates sandwiched to make the bracket and thought I snapped the one inside. Just my lack of understanding of how its put together so I hope you're right.

Webby, it got like that when I closed the door, the strap slotted into place and remained in the closed position because there is no bolt to pull it back out when I reopened the door.

Got the strap out by putting a cable tie through the strap and the a pillar fixing and opened the door. The strap and its fixing appears to be intact. But once the bush is in, there is a great big popping sound when I close the door, which wasnt there before.

As Arnie once said in Total Recall "what the hell is going on here?" "what did I do wrong?"

The whole trat thingy is available as a spare from dealer and was not expensive here so will be almost free of charge in your country  :y The rolls on strap mechanism do wear and worn rollers cause noise as well as keep wearing the plastic bush so I'd replace the whole strap. And, it seems that original fault (strap being stuck in) has been due the worn mechanism.

Do believe me, you have a busted mechanism and that's what is causing your problem. No help on that in the mentioned guide, you'll just have to simply replace the whole thing, door card off, two screws off and assembly in reversal order. Been there, got the t-shirt...  :y

So do you think my interference caused the failed mechanism? I cant see what I did wrong to be honest. So its the actual strap mechanism thats bust or do i just carry out the reinforcement mod?

Like most things: if something isn't quite right, go for the easiest/cheapest option. Only then will you know if that solves the problem. The first solution isn't always the actual/final solution :-\.

P.S. It would probably have failed next time you opened the door anyway :y.

I removed the doorcard then removed the mechanism whole on the MV6 I had.  Not hard to do with patience and you will then see if the mechanism is intact or not....

Can I just remove the bottom section of the doorcard on the facelift? I'm a bit reluctant to remove the whole thing as I have read the top section is a bit fiddly to get off and often clips get broken.

But if it is the only option then it has to be done.

I might as well reinforce both brackets as the doors are getting a bit stiff.

You'll likely need the whole thing off anyway to allow access.
