Amazes me how they get coal thats smokeless  ;D

As a guide, we pay around 180-190 a ton for quality steam coal.

Trying to think how long a ton load would last  :-\ I would have to have it delivered in bags and stored in bags on a pallet or something ...

normally 1 ton is enough for 3 months in our winter.. assuming you only use 1 stove..

but you will need logs to burn it..  in any case you will smoke ;D

 :-\ do you mean to start it cem ?

yep.. otherwise how you will start the fire.. few newspapers wont be enough to start fire on 6-7 kgs of coal..

or acetylene torch ;D
Use fire-lighters  ::)

I still use it in addition to boiler :)

In this country they are very expensive to run compared to any other fuel / heater, I had a one many many years ago, but they are conveiniant and easy to use and of course, portable.... :y :y

Yep.. Bottled gas isn't really significantly different in running costs to an electric heater here, watt for watt, except with an electric heater you get all the heat you buy whereas with LPG it depends how efficiently you are burning it.

These work quite well for starting a coal fire.  :)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GAS-POKER-FIRE-AND-BBQ-LIGHTER-CARTRIDGE-TYPE-/160921707716?pt=UK_Home_Garden_BBQ_Utensils_Accessories_LE&hash=item2577ae64c4

That takes me back to the 60's, grandmothers house and they had a poker plumed into the mains gas, all ready to go........... :y :y

For coal fires, twisted paper and a few sticks, soon gets it going, just wish I still had one.... ::) ::)

Don't forget to get the chimney swept and smoke tested if it's been redundant for a while ;)

from the picture may not be visible but it flows through a multiple hole red hot ceramic .. 15 minute is enough to heat a 7x5 meters room  .. :)   I use the boiler nearly at half level.. but if I feel cold I open it ..

here electricity become ridiculously expensive after its privatized >:( >:(
