Only a handful of days to go and I still haven't figured out how I will get to see the races not shown by BBC. This will be the first year ever since I started watching F1 that i will miss races. Best bet is to get Spanish digital TV working and listen to Radio5 commentary. Like that is going to happen.

Are the Sky only covered races going to be repeated later for free anywhere?

Anyone(not me) fancy Raikkonens chances?

Depends what you call proper tv. As opposed to the half arsed effort the beeb offer on F1.

Got to disagree with you there Chris, I think the BBC's coverage has always been superb and found it to be informative and entertaining. Like many others and being a Virginmedia subscriber, I refuse to fork out extra hard earned for Sky Sports and F1. Although I'm a big F1 fan, I'm quite happy to watch the re-runs on the Beeb which also means I won't have to get up in the middle of the night to watch the first few non-European races. ::) BBC have a good team together with Jake Humphrey, Ben Edwards (ex Eurosports and BTCC commentator) DC, Eddie Jordan, F1 designer Gary Anderson and Lee McKenzie in the pitlane and will have many of the European races live anyway. Looking forward to it. :y

I'm not sure what Virgin's rules are, I know we are giving them a F1 SD channel, I believe we also offered them HD but they did not have the bandwidth for it.

BBC could not afford to broadcast it, simples. It was costing them £1 million per race to broadcast, Sky is give BBC two fingers at this one by giving F1 its own dedicated channel, but also streaming it via all the Media platforms (Xbox, PC, iPhone, iPad & Android)

They are also going to do loads more on the build up, I'm looking forward to the iPad app getting the proper cockpit cams for the race, having that at my side while the race is live should be excellent  :)

Depending how ratings go, there is talk of BBC dropping F1 in 2013....

BBC could very easily afford it if they wanted too.They would rather spend their budget on huge coverage of a load of drug addicts running around a track in Stratford. ;)

Which will, no doubt be "sold on" to other broadcasters around the world.

F1 "coverage" is not Sky, Virgin, or BBC .. the vast majority of the race comes from the TV company of the country in which the race is held, it is only the "side issues" that are from each company.

The "race coverage" has to be bought and paid for seperately AFAIK.

So from a business point of view .... buy something at an exorbitant amount for little return (BBC/F1) or produce something with a high resale value (BBC/Olympics) ???

Real world out there .. not a fictitous one ....  :)

BBC showing highlights of all races later that day, I've got virgin, we have to have sky sports 1 to 4 to get the F1 channel. Looks good from the ads they keep giving us, hopefully the channel will go 3D too. :y

I am in the same position and totally agree with what you say although I wish they had lost EJ, he likes the sound of his own voice too much IMHO.
I am going to see how this year pans out and will have to go to SKY next season if the BBC don't deliver, and I can avoid all news reports until the highlights are shown. :)

Avoiding the news is hard IME... I've needed to do it for a few years because of other commitments at race time and it's not easy ::)

Have Sky launched the Apps yet? Can't seem to find them if they have :-\

No 3D in the near future, what people have to remember is its not the BBC/Sky or ITV which actually film the race, thats done by a separate company. You then have to pay for the rights to show this footage  :)

While Sky may want to show it in 3D, its the company doing the filming which decided whats what.

The F1 for iPad will be an "extension" of the Sky Sports iPad application, there will be a much improved F1 section than currently. It will be updated but, its not been released yet....

F1 - Bernie Ecclestones company owns the broadcasting and syndicate rights,no matter where its being broadcast from.
Olympics broadcasting - I dont know if the Beeb will be able to sell on their broacasts tbh.The rights may well be owned by the IOC. :-\

I dislike caravans and anything French in equal measures,but I would rather be where you will be than suffer the wall to wall tedium which is the Olympics. ::)

Whats the date of the olympics ??  We're in France 26 July to 9 August ... will we miss them ??  :)
