I have this same problem with the Jeep, I only have one key and one fob, they are separate, but a key alone will not work, it may open the door but will not switch off the alarm nor will it start the car.......I really need an new key and fob, the cost is around £200 though and can only be done via a dealer and coding the fob take about 2 hours apparently, via computer link with Chrysler.... :( :(

I remember the day when you could go to a motor parts place with your key number and buy a new one off the shelf, or one for the car up the road if you knew the number.....oh the good old days.... :D :D :D

We have 2 spares, one lives in SWTSMBO hand bag - along with the contents of 75 suitcases, 4 chemists, 2 post offices and a makeup shop - the other stays at home ...  :)

So, you didn't think to put it somewhere safe where it'll be easy possible to find in an emergency, then? ;)

I should really get a spare key cut at least.

Having said that I've managed just fine in 20 months of Omega ownership and never lost a key in 5/6 years of driving.

Never (permenently) lost a car key, but...

I had a main key, and a spare for the Kawasaki, can't find either. So got 2 more cut last summer, and have lost one of those as well already ::)

i happend to lock my only key in car.(dont ask)cost me £80 for new rear quarter window,
Iirc, that's only £10 cheaper than a key from a dealer. Although that quote was a long time ago.
Should you get a spare key? Yes. From a dealer? No, not completely.
There are cheaper options.
Get a basic key with transponder cut at a locksmith. Get It tech2'd on here.
Get an uncut blade and unprogrammed fob from the dealer. Cut blade at a locksmith, Tech2 to programme.

Kevin Wood in Alton and TheBoy in Brackley both have Tech2 and will programme new keys and clear out old transponder codes no problem.

Full proper vx key can be had for about £40 plus Programing on here.

You'll get the usual "you know it won't work without Programing ?" at every stage but just agree and press on.

Don't forget, that's £80 for the window, on top of the cost of another key.
Which is why I always suggest a locksmith over vandalism!
