Heater problems
« on: 27 March 2012, 22:19:15 »

Hi chaps, after posting a while back about getting an omega I finally made the splash and picked up a t reg 2.5 v6 elite, will post some pics ect in the newbie area when I get to a pc. Only problem with the car is that the heater does not blow hot at all. The car had a new matrix fitted a few years ago. So this should possibly rule out that problem?
What should I check/expect the worse cost wise ect

I'd be checking all the vacuum pipes from the HBV and under the dash.

Start by looking under the bonnet offside of the engine at the bulkhead. Your see lot's of small vacuum pipes. Just check there all connected. Your see that some go in to the cabin through the bulkhead. Next thing to do is get the Karma Sutra manual out find a good position which allows you to get your head under the dash and look up at above the peddles. Torch required and your need to remove the panel to see. If that all seems ok then the next thing to check is the HBV

Heater By-pass Valve.
It lives behind the driver's side of the engine, looks a little like Capt Kirk's Star Ship Enterprise.  ;) there is a guide somewhere here, but you remove the plastic scuttle under the wiper motor to gain access.  :y

So because im useless im offering beer tokens plus to someone who would fancy trying to figure out what is up with the heater. Im based in slough, so anywhere around berk, buks, surrey would be good, happy to travel if need be.

One last question, as far as i know its not leaking, how would i check that its not working, apart from the obvious no warm air coming through the heater.

HBV generaly fail by leaking water.  Not sure which way the HBV works, but the small vacuum connection on top is what moves the diaphragm inside ie vac on/off = heat/no heat ............ but as I say I don't know which way round.  :-\
Have you checked for air locks in the system?
