Blanking off EGR??
« on: 28 March 2012, 14:14:10 »

Has anyone blanked of the EGR on there 2.5 V6??

My EGR valve has started to blow, it always did a bit from cold but now its doing it quite badly when hot too so as a temp cure i removed the valve and made up a gasket from zinc but with no holes so it has effectively blanked of the EGR... not sure what to expect as far as performance or fuel consumption goes though, the engine certainly sounds a lot crisper when reved now but as its up on stands waiting for a new wishbone i not driven it yet..

Tomorrow will tell as i have a job the other side of the M5 near Kidderminster and one in Reading & as i live in Essex i have loads of miles to do...

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

Between EGR and plenum.  Leave unit, electrics etc in place else it throws a fault code as I recall.

On my V6 all i did was remove the two torx bolts to get the egr valve off, i then made up a gasket out of zinc with only holes for the bolts then bolted it back on

Im guessing it wont be too long before the hot gasses burn through the zin though, lol

if you look at the edge of the stainless steel flap you can see where it was blowing from, it allways did a little bit but only from cold start but it got quite bad even when engine was fully hot.

Isn't there a 'How To' for this?  If not, maybe Mark3 could knock one together for the aid of the site?  8)

Your not far from me Mark, have seen your sign written car in various places now...  :y

Well, Thursday the Omega drove beautifully, seemed much more responsive to small throttle changes at speed and pull away from standstill seems better too. i drove most the journey in sport mode, i filled up the night before and got 200 miles out of 2/3rds of a tank before putting in another £50 worth.

So it seems the fuel consumption is as it always was, over 300 miles per tank which considering the weight i always carry and my heavy right foot im pleased with.

Oh and i was in Bewdley, near Hartlebury and Kidderminster, went past a pub called the Mitre oak which i been to before when i stayed in the travel lodge up the road.

If i get a chance il pull the EGR valve off again and use as a template so i can make up some more zinc gasket which when fitted blank of the EGR, this will be on a 2.5 V6 though as thats all i got to work from, lol, then il put up a guide to blanking your EGR but it prolly isnt needed as its so simple to do.
