I can't drink like I used to, doubt any of us 'oldies' can.  The days of rolling in at 4 or 5am, then arrive at work for 8am are long gone.  Recovery takes longer as you get older.

Don't drink much now. I think male adults are allowed 40+ units a week? Doubt I do that in a month now  :-[.  A drink when out for a meal, maybe occasionally one with a meal at home, and occasionally a pub night with friends.

Oddly enough, its 28U a week for men and 21U for women.

All this reading of drinking has certainly given me a thirst  ::) But had my monthly pint on Saturday with a meal, so it's time for a cuppa  ;)

I cut down down on my drinking in my early thirties when I started driving trucks for a living.  Driving an arctic when hungover just isn't a good idea!!  ::)

Well this certainly has turned in to an interesting thread. I think for the most part it seems that we've got a lot of occasional drinkers, the odd tee-totaller and the odd recovering alcoholic  ;D....I include myself in that btw lol

Thing I'd like to ask to all those who drink the odd one or ''one a month''........... how???? That's surely not physically possible? I mean when you have one it's not like you want to stop...you want to carry on........ or maybe i'm the one who's gone drinking mad  ;D ;D ;D

when i was younger i lived above a pub and worked a few shifts there a week, and had a full time job aswell. but, i never started before 11am home about 9-10pm then would either do couple hours behind the bar, problem was living with about 8 mates above the bar we used it as our lounge  ;D most nights we would finish after closing, get ready and go clubbing til the wee hours. I was mostly ok by the time i got to work the next day  :-X  and then ready to start all over again lol   now i cant really be arsed to go to pubs or clubbing, but my drink is vodka and redbull lol i still drink far too much, about 3 times a week i will kill a 50cl bottle of vodka (used to be more before they bought out the new bottles lol) defintalty time to slow it down more, like you i cant just have 1 or 2 it has to be all of it!  ;D

That's a very good point NP. I'd say I have an addictive personality. My dad is the complete opposite. Everything in moderation. 3 pints a night. never any more. but for sum reason i can go a bit nuts with beer.

however i have been really good the last  months and curbed my drinking in the week.

I was the same could not have one or two pints, had to have more, I was drinking far to much. Then I turn my motor over and was breaterlised, failed, almost broke up my Marriage that was 36 years ago.  Never drink and drive now, not even a mouthful, I do not drink any more than two or three pints, and like RobG only a couple of times a year . Be careful WtB

Ps One of the best motors I have owned Triumph 2000 Estate full leater trim the works, Write off.

I wont even drive up the road with a hangover the next day, you never know if someone hits you sods law you will get the blame!
I had a incident a few years ago where i turned a metro over into a hedge, was only going slow and managed to pop it back over, but even tho i was going a short distance and hadnt drank that much it was a big enough lesson, i was young and stupid  :-X

Quite easy. Find something else to do that is just as interesting, less expensive and doesnt turn you into a mindless wreck (in excess of course). If you look around there are usually many such things to do.  ;D

I like to drink .. especially when outside with a barbeque..

however, my liver sometime ago decided that it doesnt want to work extra.. and as a warning make painful jokes and some kind of health problems.. so now I very rarely drink..

adding to this mother now is in hospital and getting cirrhose treatment, I decided also to balance my diet as I am also having early symptoms..

[now let me add some lemon juice to this thread ;D ]

after reading many pages of cirrhose subject I must note, alcohol is a primary cause for cirrhose..

and liver organ being vital for human life, can not be repaired.. and if its hammered continously it will turn to liver cancer ...  (must note also only cirrhose side effects can be treated)

persons especially with overweight (or excess weight) must have liver and blood tests.. and its no big deal to predict most of them have liver problems.. reason is simple, a healthy working metabolism dont need extra fat for energy, instead it can be supplied from liver resources.. but when your liver performance degrade, the bodies answer is to stock fat for urgent energy needs..  and if you need sweets frequently, you may have more problems not only  liver..  and an important warning chronic heart disease within long time can cause also cirrhosis..

and its very painful to suffer and die like that.. :(
