possible oil pump failure
« on: 15 April 2012, 18:55:30 »

high just had to get the car towed home last night :'( it is running really rattly and tappy, the AA man thinks that the oil pump has gone, and he also thinks that i had put to much oil in when i topped it up. would this cause many problems?

what do i need to do next?
many thanks

Is the oil light on? If not I'd say it is not the oil pump. And putting too much oil in... well... you'd have to put several decilitres/ a litre too much to make any harm. Read the codes, something might come up...

Oh well, that changes the situation... Seems that AA-man is right. Sump off-job I think.

Can only tell once sump is removed. If strainer is totally clogged would certainly account for the "rattly/tapping" noise
