Dealing with the public
« on: 01 April 2008, 11:07:38 »

We have just had a potential customer pull up at our bodyshop in his Fiesta. He said that he would like to know if the rear bumper on the Fiesta would repair or if it would need replacing. Armed with his quote pad our foreman walked to the Fiesta and could see no damage. Which bumper is damaged he asked?
The unbelievable reply;
Oh its not this Fiesta its my wifes and she has it at work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please engage brain before speaking is the advice.

Not the public as such but...

Yesterday I got asked to talk to a FSE (Field Service Engingeer) of ours that wished to complain that some one on our COMS team, Now Im not COMS trained, I'm on the Security/Win Validation side but I was the only team leader about at the time.

I asked the FSE what the problem was, he says

"Your bloke says I'm a idiot and I need to get a another enginer out here to do this job" he then rants on a bit...

So I ask what the problem was with the job,

"None of our TRM's on site can get COMS with the server farm, they just keep failing after I fitted a new router"

I ask him if there on CAT5 or wireless, he tell's me there wireless so I try to get remote admin on the router, I have no COMS to the site

I say

"I dont have coms to your router, can you check the patch cable to the phone line is in and..."  He cuts me off after I say phone line and screams at me

"THATS WHAT THE OTHER GUY KEPT SAYING!!! AND I KEEP TELLING HIM ITS A WIRELESS ROUTER WHY DO I HAVE PLUG IT IN TO A PHONE LINE!!! YOU LOT ARE F**KING IDIOTS"

I advised him to call hardware support, They called us back 20 mins later and thanked us for the call of the week.

Even they could not get him to plug in the dam phone cable...

They sent a diffrent FSE out who, plugged in the phone cable and every thing worked :)

This reminds me of a time I was a manager for Comet in Chester. An old dear bought an upright vacuum and a video recorder (quite a few years ago). She was a lovely old dear and because she lived on my way home I said I would drop the item off and set them up. When I got to her house after work I set about putting the handle on the vacuum, once that was together and working I went into the lounge tp set the video up and she asked me if I wanted a brew so I said yes. I plug the video in and grabbed the first tape from a row stored under the TV and put it in the video to tune the TV to the video. Can you imagine the look of panic on my face when I found the video channel and the tape was full of PORN.  :o

What do you expect, if he was a real engineer he would be able to design the router, reality is hes a technician.
