Difficult to clean a MAF without damaging it.

The inlet tract on a DTi can get coated in sticky oil from the breather pipe connected to it (known to drip from the joint onto the alternator), worth taking all of the inlet off and cleaning it.

I cleaned the MAF on the basis that if it fixed it great......If it didn't cheap enough to buy a new one...and at 130k prob does need 1 anyway.
You're right about the pipework...full of crud but the IPA and a bit of compressed air sorted it.
MAF was left in the sun to dry...didn't think 150 psi would do it any good!

Bit of an update!!

Had a bod out to the car today with a Tech II.
Poked it for an hour or so and he kept getting p1590 code.
He seems to think it is an ecu fault in that there is an earth missing or a chip/joint/componant that has failed.
When he lifted the ecu out  he found a wire roughly connected from the ecu case to battery neg which he thinks is there to get around a fault on ther board.
He has suggested either repairing it if i can find someone or replaceing ecu/chip and pick up ring as a kit to see if that solves it.

anyone know of a good repairer or an ecu doing nothing??

Had the mechanic round and he's cleaned the EGR and the MAF - said they were gunked-up, so think I'll ask him to do them every year as a part of the service.  We'll see if it's sorted this weekend as we're taking the caravan out - so fingers crossed!

(Mechanic uses Tech 11 and he couldn't find a stored code withit - hence the cleaning option!)
