60  well i have another 13 yrs to wait then  cold weather seems to affect me more . Had to give in and order a walking aid , really didnt want to go this route but anything to ease the pain when walking 

i was dead set against a stick and i only use when i am expecting to walk some distance....and i have to say it does help...i it hate it when the doctors are right

but as for hip/joint replacement it is all to do with cost at moment....they have a life span of 10-15 years thats why 60 seems to be a yard stick BUT as it is driven by cost you might find different health authorities have different rules..then saying  that my nan at 84 has just (3 days ago ) had a knee replacement and tbh with all the stories in the news with regard to replacement joints i don't think i want one at the moments

Taking up walking with a stick was one of my biggest problems (fused ankle and foot bones due to RTA). However I found myself avoiding doing things as I couldn't do the walking. Then I realised I was missing out on so much especially where the kids were concerned. So I bit the bullet and I walk with some groovey metal calapisable stick. However it's only this with a blue badge which helps me get about to some places. Cronic pain is shit.

Results only partly confirmed over the phone but MRI scan shown arthritis in both hips and left one worse than right ... some mention of Osteoarthritis ... im being sent to a specialist  No more bikes for me

Ive been struggling to walk for distances but have been putting off any sort of aid like a stick , i think its the stigma about one like ill look like an old foegie  but ive ordered one crutch which will help while im out and about .. dont fancy one of those elec solo cars just yet well not unless its got leather seats and cruise control 

And a turbo ?

Been putting off going doctors for some time just trying to ignor the problem but now have to face up to it , not even 50 yet  not far off though . Aghh will have to plod on as normal as can be

Not one for taking pills never have been and ive been avoiding the painkillers till i got the results back ... very uncomfortable right now cant even sit proper  But will check out what they prescribe me

My ex-boss had a hip replacement in his late 40's due to wear and tear from sports, they will do it just don't like to. The reason stated they like to hang on to 60 is because of how it is done, the spike with the new ball joint is driven into the femur, first time is fine, second time they need a bigger spike because the hole is enlarged, 3rd time you risk fracturing the femur.

In his case i'm fairly sure he was an early example of 'resurfacing' or whatever it's called where they don't chop the ball off but put a cap over it, it still leaves the issue of excess work on the socket but I believe that's a bit easier to work around.

different health authorities all have different rules...mine WONT do a replacement untill you are 60....and they WON'T use the resurfacing method as it is deemed to be unreliable as the horror stories that were in the news a little while ago were all about resurfacing methods...dont help me or others that are in herendous pain....

Wow all a bit gruesome sounding that  Thanks for the insight anyway 
My aunt as had 2 replacement hips now and shes still the same , mind you she is 80 .
