rather DVD Players
« on: 12 May 2012, 09:57:30 »

My againg (but excellent) Pioneer DV464 has packed up, and seems to be beyond repair.

So its new DVD player time....easy, or so I thought....

Requirements..

Decent DVD player, MUST have Scart, be multiregion (out the box, or hackable) and preferably have multi disk resume, so you can swap disks part way through films and carry on where you left off effortlessly.
Not much to ask I thought....the 10 year old one did that perfectly.

Load of research, and a Sony DVPSR150 seemed to fit the bill....
Buy one, bad lip sync issues.
so thats going back.
(plus was assured the damaged box came in like that, and was perfect inside....wrong, clearly 2nd hand, so a big argument at comet coming up this morning!)

Really struggling to find a decent player, most only have HDMI now, with only the dregs having a scart.
Ideal option is replace the TV too, but dont want to pay out for that right now.

grrrrrr

I have a player here you can have for the cost of postage.

It's multi region, scart, component and so on - some sort of fancy Sony the designation of which I can't remember because it's in the box in the loft :-[ but it was seldom used as I bought it to view one set of Region 1 discs and packed it up after that. ;D

So, if you don't get sorted out let me know. :y

Aah yes, this is the impressive DVP-S725D according to the destruction book ;D ;D ;D

I rarely use my Pioneer HDD DVDR recorder (analogue tuners anyway), as I'm 100% Media Center (at last with Win8, Media Centre!!!).

But I keep hold for those odd occasions :y

JB - my cheap, nasty 'Supermarket special' actually works really well, apart from the remote looks like a toy. Worth a punt for £15-£20?  Either way, gotta be better than the shite Sony produce...

Should add, the Tecnika special is in bedroom, unsure how well it will blow up on a large screen though....

Panacronic dmr DVD recorder under out telly is nothing more than an expensive clock.

...although the clock is on 00.00 ;D

Haven't used it for several years. Recording from sky hd box is a flakey too.

took mine back to comet and refunded :)
over to richersounds to try the same again...
weve got one....but its ex-display or something....but we have this better one you can have for the same price.

Just got home with my cheap LG DVX692H and am very pleased.

Plays English and American DVDs nicely
Plays divx files off usb stick perfectly
doesnt have my multi disk resume
but the usb input and having hdmi and scart make up for that.

more than happy so far, will sit down with a film later to fully check.
