If I remember correctly this tight space was one of the reasons police in UK started buying volvos instead of migs cause couldn't fit their equipment int the mig.
Well at least read somewhere something like this

Well at least read somewhere something like this
I drive an ex-plod face lift and my local constabulary STILL use them as training cars! Whenever, I see them on the road, the instructors wave at me and give the thumbs up! :y
As far as your radio goes, do as suggested, see how the harness sits in the tray and you should be able to work it through...
Out of interest, are you using an adaptor cable? This will make your job harder....
