get a BIG tent.

I went camping with a mate near Alton Towers once, we had a 5 person tent for the 2 of us. Was only just big enough !  ;D

It was the size of a house, this family of 4 turned up in an Astra next door to our Pitch, dad, mum, kid1, kid2 got out... they all then built this tent 1/3 the size of ours, and pilled in!  ;D

Must have been like sardines in there.

My tent, which most of you have seen, and is known as the Greenhouse or the Anderson Shelter, is a 5 person, and is one of the few that I consider big enough for 5.

Cost £185

Look around and see one up, not just in pics, they can be deceiving. :)
There are some really big family tents around that do not have to cost a fortune. :) :)

If I were you mate, I'd go for a six berth frame tent. That would give you three separate bedrooms and a large living area.

The only problem with family tenting is that I think you need a dead level pitch or it becomes a bit of a pain.

Something like this mate.

If you're interested, I've got one you have for nothing. It would give me a bit of space in the garage.

The first thing you have to consider is how much use will it get?

If you plan to spend holidays in it, the bigger the better.

If you just want it for the odd weekend away, i.e. OOF meets, then a reasonable sized budget one I would have thought would be OK.

I looked at ones tentastic sold - the hydroscopic thingie is quite low, so could be a problem if it rains a bit.

But good value if you're looking at just weekend breaks.  If using for family holidays, I'd look a bit more upmarket.

Buy one made of plastic, has a fully equipt kitchen, heating, shower, TV and you can pull behind your car on it's own trailer. I think they are called caravans  ;)

This way you have more boot space for your beer!  :y

Couple of things to consider, after space and sleeping rooms.....

Head height - better if you can stand straight to put your kecks on rather than lying down.
Hydrostatic head - or how waterproof it is.  Higher the number, the better.
Welded seams - what it says.  Makes sure the seams are waterproof.
Weight - steel poles are heavy but tent can be more robust.
Sod cloth - strip at the bottom of the tent outer that can be tucked under the groundsheet if its not a sewn in one.

If its just for occassional summer use, make is not the most important issue, imho....   :y
