how straight forward is it to install a sub in my 2.2 (2000) saloon. Nothing chav just need a little depth as my current stereo sounds shite! CCR2006. its the basic model in 2.2 cd.

You'll need a live feed direct from the battery (fused of course), and you'll also want a sub that can accept speaker level input as the CCR2006 doesn't have either a dedicated sub output or a line level output.

Easier to fit a new headunit - I've got a Pioneer in mine that sounds a hundredfold better than the original CDR wotsit.

I have a converter thingumy that connects to the speaker outputs from the standard factory headunit and lowers to signal so as any amp or sub package can be made to work.
Good point on the fuse, and make sure it's fitted as close to the battery as possible.

I've always thought standard Vx. speakers didn't sound too bad, especially if driven by a decent headunit...

Very bad idea ! 

Original speakers are rated at around 15 Watts and designed to run with an 8 Watt standard head unit.

Putting an aftermarket head unit is going to kill both them and the aftermarket head very quickly, as most head units these days are in excess of 40W per channel - I`ll leave you to do the maths !!

LOL! Obviously I'm not an auto audio specialist but I have been driving Vauxhalls for years, most of my cars have had amplifiers and large speakers in the boot and I always use high power Pioneer headunits to drive them.
If you set up the tone controls and volume levels properly, and use a bit of common sense then you are unlikely to blow the standard speakers, I never have and I usually listen to 'bass heavy' music.

Big vauxhalls are badass with a decentCarter hu! 45watts is an absolute peak when stated on a head unit and you'll distort long before then. If they're in good nick the standard speakers come alive on a different hu, just don't go mad
