New to this thread but Kate i would SERIOUSLY considor taking the option up of OOF fixing this before letting a novice mechanic who has to read a manual to fix it.

Before you know it the bill may go up and up as the car fails to run as it should. The best knowledge of all things omega is on here !
totally agree  the knoledge base on her is unbelievable  would rather have the guys off here do my car

Its a no brainer, im sure your mechanic is very competent at his job but someone like Mark can do them with his eyes shut ;)

Hi Kate. With diesel nearly £5 a gallon i think we'd be looking @£150 round trip. If you can get it fixed nearer home that'd be better for you but i'd be happier entrusting my Mig to some one who knows them.
I'm hardly rolling in money myself so appreciate your financial situation. The offer still stands even if you'd like to leave it a week or two to recover but let me know please.
Just a thought but is it an option for those able to fix it to travel up in one car & repair it in Sunderland?
      Might be cheaper? 8-)

Thanks a lot Guy.  Yes you're right I'd much rather have the expert oofers do my car than anyone else whatsoever! :y

I'll see what this bloke Dave says but I know the oofers are the best around.

I'm in a difficult situation as my partner screams at me everyday about this.

I sold a reliable little Citroen AX to buy the mig so all I get is:

You should have kept the Citroen!
You should have kept the Citroen!
You should have kept the Citroen!
You should have kept the Citroen!
You should have kept the Citroen!
You should have kept the Citroen!
I told you you should have kept the Citroen!
You should have kept the Citroen!
You should have kept the Citroen!
I told you you should have kept the Citroen!
I told you so!

Do you know what I mean?

Oh yee of little faith so what happened to KSEAL ?? ok use the whole bottle then.

Yep we know you will get an ace job done by the boys on here, if money is not a problem you can get it done anywhere.

Lets be a bit more realistic money is and is going to be an issue for a lot more peeps.

Solution
sufficient to get it going, untill a more local cambelt meet.

Just a thought. How about, rather than shifting 2 tons of car about, could we not attack it at its current location, diagnose the fault, and maybe take off the heads if they needed rework, and ship them somewhere else?. A lot cheaper shippng heads than a Mig.

Hey this could be a first for OOF, why not a couple of guys could go up, and someone use a vid cam, and if we could live link it to the forum, then we would have the benefit of guys like Mark, Timbuk etc who can give their diagnosis on line, and the workers can act accordingly. I'm sure I could remove/refit a V6v head easily enough (with a little bit of help !).

I have experimented with a camcorder plugged into a laptop, so with a little bit of work/ advice could provide the video side of things, if there was suitable internet link at the house in question. This would be a first, car repair via video link !.

We would need TB's input on that. I have never set up a web cam etc, however, I can provide a camcorder linked up via firewire to my laptop. If Kate has a good enough internet link that I can connect to, and TB can provide instructions as how to stream the video, then we could do it.

Great, my laptop has wireless, so theoretically it should be able to link with no problems. Over to TB  :y

The biggest problem is that a head gasket change is a 7-8 hour job.....and with a 2.5 hour drive each way it works out as some very hard graft!

And if it rains then we are buggered unless Kate can get the car under cvoer?
