What's the difference....
« on: 19 July 2012, 15:08:01 »

Between the elite and the mv6? What do you get in the elite as opposed to the mv6? I mean the facelift version, and trim level rather than engine really.
Asking because I'm hoping to own my 4th omega soon and it's gonna be either of these two - couple of things to sort out before i do buy but there's a nice 2.6 grey elite and a 3.2  black mv6 on auto trader at the moment, can't make up my mind which I prefer! :-\
Like the silver surrounds of the mv6,looks more modern than the fake wood, but think they grey elite looks really good, and you don't see many greys around. Decisions decisions :-\

Personally I would go for the Elite every time.I really dont see the point of the MV6 tbh.It has slightly firmer suspension over a standard Omega and is usually missing many of the luxuries of the Elite. The only downside to the Elite is that the suspension is too soft for those who like to drive hard in the twisties (and you could argue an Omega is probably the wrong car for that anyway),but the elite suspension can be changed if required, relatively easily.

Cheers guys, looks like I'll go for the elite then when the time comes. Would love the grey one I've spotted, probably a month too soon though.

Depends if you like the toys or regard them as a pain in the @rse that will only eventually go wrong. ;)

The interior is worth a mention too. I find MV6 seats much more comfortable and supportive than Elite seats. Leather MV6 seats are also quite rare and the best of the bunch if you "get on" with leather. Some prefer cloth, though, and cloth sports seats is what you'll find in most MV6s. Either way, I find them much better than facelift Elite leather, which is about the worst choice of seat in an Omega, IMHO. Interior can be swapped, of course... You will lose the seat / mirror memory if fitting MV6 seats in an Elite unless you do a lot of messing about.

I find a sunroof utterly pointless on a car that has air-con, so that's a load of weight saved high above the roll axis on an MV6.

Self levelling suspension on an Elite might be attractive if you tow, but it's a bit wallowy compared the the MV6 setup.

TBH, though, when buying a used car, you are far better off picking the best car of the two regardless of trim, colour, etc.

Again, MV6 every time for me...

Comfy, firmer drive on excellent seats...

versus a few toys i dont want (or can retro fit if I do) and crap suspension.

plus, bose....very nice in an elite, but a pain to change to anything better instead of plug and play.

Yep, good point. If you are sure you'll always be happy with the factory audio system then it's fine (until the laser dies).

If you have to replace any part of the system, you need to replace the whole lot, head unit, speakers, amp.

Having both here, in the same colour, same engine, both saloon...and liking toys.

Elite all day long for me, but the absolute first thing to go has to be the suspension. Unless your a wafting along type of driver/pikey.

Mv6 seats are probably the best sport seats I've sat in, but I still find the side bolsters on the base uncomfortable, the backs of my thighs ache on a journey more than 20mins long. Although being tall And needing to sit close the the steering wheel to mucsle my currently heavy steering about, means i've got used to a slightlymodd seating position, that i havent experimented with on the Mv6. The loss of memory function is unacceptable though IMO.

Bose is a must.

Retro fitting depends on where your skills lie.
Being hopeless at electrics, I obviously prefer to fit better suspension to the Elite, than fit loads of toys to the mv6.

Sunroofs are a pita. But IMO the odd occasion that they can be used, like today's drive through a roundabout infested town on a sunny day with little traffic and shite tyres on the back made it all woth while. Ac on, sun coming in, fantastic. :y

Elite on firm suspension for me. But then, it's for you, so that's not a helpfull statement. :)

Agreed on the Bose audio system, it really does sound quite good, I'm amazed at the volume levels it can produce with out any distortion.
The Mv6 I have came with an ipod adapter too so it allows digital sound files to be played over the cars Bose set up.

I'm hoping to own my 4th omega soon and it's gonna be either of these two ... there's a nice 2.6 grey elite and a 3.2  black mv6
If you don't mind a manual gearbox then my cars for sale. It has all of the best features from both the Elite and the Mv6 models...

... I could REALLY do with selling it too as I have to find £750 within the next week so any offer above this would be VERY appealing.

IMO, if you want the best all round car go for the elite.  It's a fairly easy job to fit the MV6 sports front seats and LSC suspension to an elite, but you'll be there until your arsehole heals up retro fitting all the elite toys in a MV6!  :y

Thing is, we are all different, and we all want different things from our cars.  Just as well Vauxhall gave us the choice then!  ;D
