We have a savings account with santander. We have had it for years and were receiving a pathetic 0.1% interest. I noticed in a mag that a new version of the same account was available to new customers with a rate of 3.2%. I rang them up and said I wasn't happy. The nice man on the phone opened a new account for me there and then, took about five minutes with the security questions. He asked me to log on and I would see the new account, which I did. He asked to transfer the money from my old account to the new one. Did that. 'That's it' he said, 'I've changed over your ATM card and it will work with the new account, same PIN'. It did.
We have a current account with barclays. We pay £13 a month for it. It comes with free RAC cover for the wifes car, including homestart and forward transport to any UK location. The RAC were charging us £15 amonth for this until we cancelled. So, free banking.
When I transfer money from that account to the santander account, it is instant and the same the other way. As soon as I log off from one account and into the other, the money is there. Barclays pay 26 direct debits and standing orders for us every month, on time.
I am happy with the service I get from both banks, esp Barclays and I think the service provided is excellent.
PS. I am not one of these customers who wants to speak to a face, give me a robot every time
