Anyone know if its an easy job to take off or more to the point easy to put back together ? Since i had the car its been crooked like its going to fall off but it hasnt yet so time to investigate why its looking to escape  ... been meaning to fix it for a while esp after swmbo slammed it shut today

If memory serves, it's a doddle to remove and replace. I didn't know it could be crooked though.

Will take a picture and post it before i dismantle it , it still works ok but loose on one side like something has come loose holding it on

I am trying to picture it, sounds like there are two studs holding the handle in place, one may have snapped?

That sounds like bad news then if something has snapped  will get a pic up soon ...

Difficult to properly capture it put looking from this left side its popped out somehow and does not sit straight

RIGHT! I see now, the pivot seems to have snapped, see this pic:-



Looks like you either drift the pin out & replace, or get a complete handle assembly from a breaker, and swap the lot.

remember to keep the lock barrel    You never know when you might need to get in through the boot if you dead lock it & the battery fails (I know the theory of opening a deadlocked car - it doesn't always happen in practice )

Thanks Agemo  , ill try and fix it if at all possible ... is it just a case of removing the boot panel cover to gain access ? Quite sure i know where there is a spare one on a breaker .

It must do .....  You can get a lock set so assume the barrel comes out, I've never had need to disassemble mine though.

Okeydokey  Hope i can put it all back together without dropping it all on the floor if some trigger loaded spring or something flies out

Swapping the handle is easy, and so is the change-over of the lock. The handle assembly is on show once you remove the boot trim, you will see 3 nuts, like this:-

Thats good to know , wonder if ill get away with tightening the bolts ... wont know until i have a look but if im lucky maybe just a nut has worked loose 

Do i have to turn the electric off if the whole lot has to come out ?

Sorry but it looks like your pivot pin has snapped. The "D" shaped bit that lifts to unlock the boot, is only fixed on on one side, the surround is held in situ by the three studs, yours looks secure, but the steel pin will have sheared. It's a long time since I replaced my handle, but I do remember it was a doddle. I "upgraded" mine while I was at it, from a flat badge, to the more modern PFL chrome raised one.

I hope you understand the above, it's just the middle bit that you lift that has a sheared pin. I would take it off , have a look, and either replace the pin, or swap the complete handle assembly. (remember to keep your old lock)
