Question for electricians ............
« on: 24 August 2012, 20:25:26 »

I want to connect up 3 outside security lights - which will draw a max of 300 watts each. I've got a spare position on my fusebox and a 6amp breaker available.

My question is, can I use 1mm cable to run from the breaker onto the 1st light and then onto 2nd and 3rd

Hopefully I can as I've got the best part of a drum of 1mm cable - fingers crossed.

Thanks - Rob

1mm T/E is sufficient depending on cable run. Don`t forget to wire them in parallel

A 20 metre run in an enclosed (less than 100mm) space with a current demand of 4 amps (1000W) at 230V will result in a voltage drop of just under 4V, so 1mm˛ T&E will be fine for your application.
Don't forget to provide a suitable means of isolation.
