Oil filter will be clearly visible when looking up towards the downpipe/manifold joint.

what a bloody stupid place to put an oil filter  :D hahahaha

in that case, while its apart i shall look into ordering one. ive had the mig for a few years now and not serviced it. but then, its only done 25k km or so in my ownership.

but while its all off, it might be worth it.

You really want to have had the car running for a while to get things nicely warm before removing the oil and filter as oil gets thinner when hot and it will help drain quicker and loosen and small deposits that my be in suspension in the oil .

Pointless changing just the filter and if not changed in your ownership then its well overdue now.

+1. Many of the members on here change their oil every 5,000 km or so. I'm one of them.

Now you need to get the dipstick out.

you do mean the filler tube, not the dipstick, right?

Varche,

I find the "bast*rd bolt" easy to get in and out - i had to tackle it when doing the thermostadt housing etc. (probably because theres no engine lift hook thing on it as well, just the water transfer pipe and dipstick tube.)

ok, im getting very pis*ed off with the manifold. Theres absolutly no access to it, the aircon solid pipe and steering flexi is in the way. Ive got all the "minor" bits off around it.

the middle top bolt came out easy with a spanner.

using the spanner (cant get the ring end on the nuts, they are too close to the manifold) i started to round the bolts off. so i had to go and buy a new socket (3/8 drive 13mm) for the others, my "big" set was too big to fit in the gap and my other set wasnt strong enough. so i bought a socket and a 3/8 breaker bar.

ive been spraying the nuts with wd40 every day while waiting for bits to come / go get bits.

today ive been out and tried with my new tools, the socket and breaker is too big to get to the front nut  >:( and on the back one, i dont believe it, it actually started to round off the nut.  :-\

im at a loss with what to do now. can anyone offer any advice?

ok, the top three are out. i had to remove the air re-circulating pipe to get to the front nut, which, surprisingly, came out without the stud.

lets see what more i can do in an hour. tearing out the lower heat sheild seems like a good start. (thats a point, i´d best order two more. are they still avaliable from the dealer or should i try ebay for used ones ? )

lower heat sheild fell off when i touched it, it was that rusty. at least that was easier than the top one to get off.

ok, so now the 4 lower bolts have been exposed. all looks a bit tight under there, but im thinking extension bars and wiggley bits will be my friend. or i might even be able to get them from the top, with a ratchet and a 3 inch extension?

above the oil filter theres 2 "solid" pipes, that wiggle their way from above the gearbox, but they dont join to anything. i assume they should, but i wonder what they are ? they are metal pipes, with big nuts on the end, it looks like they should screw into something, i cant see yet. anyone got any ideas ?

If you mean these, they go to the oil cooler
