2.2 dti maintenance guides...
« on: 11 September 2012, 14:42:52 »

...or lack of them...  :-\

Just an idle thought at the moment, but the forum seems to be getting an increasing number of requests for help relating to the 2.2 dti engined model, and there aren't many maintenance guides to assist...

I have recently picked up a relatively high mileage (163k) 2002 dti elite, which has what I would consider to be a fairly normal service history (roughly every 20k, as per Vxl's somewhat misguided recommendations).  I would therefore expect this engine to be in dire need of some decent maintenance.

As I picked the car up for peanuts, and I'm not desperate to get it on the road, I would be more than happy to use this car to document the common problems and remedials, for the benefit of other members., with the end result hopefully being an excellent set of mainenance guides.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to this engine, so I would need to call on the experts here to assist along the way...

I know, Jack all about the 2.2 Dti (including the other models) but any guide that will help others is always a worth while exercise James.

Gets my vote.

Much as I want to vote with the "Devil's Fuel" option I do agree that there are very few guides for the 4 pot Diesel.

So knock yourself out James :y :y

Go for it James :y :y

I would contribute more if my DTi was unreliable, but all that's wrong with him in nearly five years is the injector seals have gone (which I still need to do). I just keep him full of fuel & remember not to park him facing up hill.

I changed the glow plugs a while back for which I posted up a "how to".

Well that seems like a pretty good response so far...  :y

Perhaps we could start off by listing all the jobs that might need doing?  Then we can put them is some form of sensible order and go from there?...

Sounds good too me.

Never remember to take any pictures or write guides when I do anything on my DTi... Probably because it's my daily car and everything tends to get done in a rush to keep it on the road..... While the V6 sits on the drive wondering if it'll every go more than 10 miles a week!

I was gona do a "how to" when I changed the starter motor, but I didn't have time to take the pics etc.

I had thought there were not many about on the forum :)

I'll post up a how-to once I've figured out why the glow-plugs are not coming on as they should.

Glow plugs only come on momentarily in warmer temperatures.

Glow Plug Relay mounted in top edge of triangular relay box by battery, worth checking if the CTS is reading the right temperature as well.

Be careful removing glow plugs as they have a habit of siezing in the head and snapping off, follow Pete's guide on this one  :y

More guides always help members, as do spotting errors or finding better ways in existing guides :y

Good Man James, you know it makes sense.

Here's your first one on the list of priorities.

How To - replace your 2.2 Dti Engine with a 3.2 V6 setup.

I'll let you boys worry about that one.  I'm far more interested in keeping the dti lump, and getting it running as sweet as possible.  :y
