iirc if your lucky you might get away with it jumping a max. of 3 teeth :-/

memory is a bit fuzzy but I think I once saw one 4 teeth out in the Tidworth party

Depends which way they slip. A cam can slip in one direction until it won't run (inlets retarded, exhaust advanced) with no damage but a couple of teeth the other way will kill the valves.

In all seriousness, you may as well try and check the cheap option first... You're going to need a belt kit anyway so at least you'll know before all the work!

You can start the engine with the belt fitted and no inlet.......as long as the plenum and idle valve is on....
