Phone line fault...
« on: 05 October 2012, 18:41:33 »

How does this work then??

No dial tone on home phone and it doesnt ring if anyone calls, but they get ringing tone....

BUT

Adsl works fine..... ????

Rang ISP.....who did a line test......it shows a fault between exchange and my master socket....

However apparently if fault is outside my house, then its free repair, but if its damaged wiring or damaged master socket inside my home, then its a £60 charge  :-\

What do peeps reckon is the fault??

We had a similar fault the other week except callers were being told our phone wasn't able to take calls.
Took the NTE plate off the master socket whilst testing line, put it all back together and all has been well since.

If it was damaged wiring then your broadband wouldn't work either, the fault will be outside of your control/doing.

PS
I assume you have tried a known good working phone?

Dave, take the faceplate off your master socket and plug a known working phone in. If it works it's your problem, if it doesn't it's theirs.

A lot of faults are cropping up since they started putting these new cabs in for infinity.

I could blame it on all the building work going on around where i live......new homes....new school.....plus road works going on......but it could be the bit of wire that is attached to my house that runs to a telegraph pole.....via a large tree  ::) :-\

Generally, if the HR is near the termination point, ADSL will still work, but the phone line won't.

//Edit HR = poor connection or a corroded wire. High Resistance.
