A simple task for iPhone users
« on: 21 October 2012, 00:20:56 »

Sending multiple pictures.

I took about 40pics and half a dozen videos on holiday.
H wants them on her iphone.

Now, how to send them from my iphone4?

Email, can't select more than 5 per email, as the option to send disappears after more than 5 are selected.

imessage, same story.

Text, might well allow sending the numbers I want but each pic has to be selected individually, too painfull.

I've actually partially dealt with it by uploading to photobucket and she can log in from her end.

But this is what I mean about crapples smart phones functionality. This was a very easy task on symbian/Nokia devices. Go to album, check/un check as many pics as you like, send via blu tooth, and the phone ticks away until they are all sent (or the phone crashed ;D )

There's progress I suppose. Or has the 5 been improved? Is blu tooth utilised more?

Ps, tried "whats app". Only allows one pic at a time. Sigh....

I know Jobsy didn't let you bluetooth to other devices that weren't made by his mob, but I didn't know he wouldn't let you to Bluetooth to another Apple device as well.
If that is the case, there doesn'tseem to a be alot of point in having BT functionality to start with IMO.

Anyway, what's stopping you uploading them to your PC and then putting them on her phone that way?

Most email servers would reject such an email based on size anyway. Email is desperately inefficient with attachments. Desperately inefficient.

I'd pull them off onto a PC/Mac, then push them back to other phone, as Martian suggests.

crApple's bluetooth stack was only originally envisaged for handsfree (music and phone), though why will always be the subject of much debate, but we all know its to prevent an uncontrolled access method to the device. A more advanced bluetooth protocol came in with either 4 or 4S, though despite crApples less stringent rules on how the device can be accessed, I suspect there's still no OBEX.

Jailbroken devices can do things more directly, courtesy of SSH, but somehow I can't see Gixerboy getting to grips with that, when the point and click PC solution is available.

If it's too another iPhone, there's an app called Bump, download it, simply put Bluetooth on, on both phones, select your pictures and then hold the phones in each hand and 'bump' them together :).

yes I had not thought of that as an option :y ...but my point really is, coming from Symbian, that functionality isn't available, it's a backward step. As with a Symbian device, it's a non event really, so easy to do.

How does Android deal with this..? :)

Also, there's reasons why my phone can't go anywhere near iTunes.

...and i'd be stumped using a pc and the phone as a storage device.

Getting cables and pc's out, is not an option IMO anyway, as it's a function that should be available on the blooming phone.

Can you not use the cloud, and a 'shared' photo stream?

I open up a file explorer, select the files I want, then simply "send" them using whatever method I like from the list (eg, Bluetooth, Messaging, Gmail, Wi-Fi, etc).

I was going to suggest Bump earlier, but IIRC that shrinks the images in the same way that sending them via MMS or email does.
