For future reference, how much is silly cheap, Henry? :y

Straight swap for the Vitara in my signature which owes me bugger all :y

So we can say £5,000 then ::) ::) ::) ;). Sounds a bit steep for an 04 Signum. ;D ;D ;)

Picked up the Signum this afternoon and first impressions are good,plenty of kit with Elite spec and loads of grunt from the engine,gearbox is smooth and no warning lights present so at the moment quite chuffed :y

 theve got enough mid range to pull a house down,
   mates got one thats been chipped,fuel consumption got better by 3mpg and the mid range was even better.

 the 3.0L diesal was evaulate by plod in the vectra till they offered them the "C" the vxr engine at a better price,there are some 3.0L diesal ones about if you wait TV had some so did met/dpg..

I agree,mid range torque is very good,actually it makes my old 2.5 v6 omega seem very tame in comparison ???

The Auto box was never the issue on the Auto's, it was the Auto oil cooler. They used a poor water/oil heat exchanger built into the rad (not as good as that used on the Omega which is pretty bullet proof) which failed resulting in water in the gearbox.

Simple fix is to fit an oil-air oil cooler.  :y

I might well do that anyway as this may get some towing duties :y

There not a bad (Isuzu) engine in those, pity they dont breath a bit better as they would have much more go and potential (the breathing is a bit restricted so chipping them does not yield as much as other engines)

Vx don't even try to hide the fact its an Isuzu engine,its got badges all over the engine bay with Isuzu written on them,very impressed with the refinement of it though,very quiet indeed on the move,any idea if the autobox is Gm or Isuzu Mark?

In which case its the AF33 Aisin box (AW55-50SN in Aisin speak).

No real issues with the six speed

Its T-IV fluid e.g. Mobil ATF 3309 and should be changed every 50K miles

Same gearbox is used in Volvos and Jap cars
