I have been asking around out of interest to see how much I would have to pay for a "professional" outfit to take on the work of A) Changing the cam belt and tensioner's B) replacing all other belts C) fitting a new water pump D) washing out the coolant system and replacing with a 50/50 mix.
Some garages shuddered when I asked them to quote, not wanting to do the work. An average price for these was between £600-£800 all parts and labour.
My friendly Vx main dealer, who I would provide the parts to, buying them from their parts department at trade- £240 -, quoted £356 for just labour. So again, all in around £600!
It just shows what you will be charged if you take your V6 miggy into a garage for this work. It would seem the crippler of the situation is the labour / time the garage's give to do this work which they know for them is lengthy and not straightforward compared to other jobs they can do!
