Spare key
« on: 19 December 2012, 20:11:32 »

We need another key for our car, as it only came with one. If we get another 2 button remote one, is it a dealer only job to get it programmed in?

Given your location, get the programming done by Marks DTM Calib in Nottingham. Bloody nice and helpful chap, but don't tell him I said that.

You need:
Blank 105 key with transponder (about a tenner from ebay)
The correct fob (looking identical isn't enough, has to be right manufacturer and model)
Carpass (this has the security PIN on it)
Programming (Marks DTM)

The local locksmith we use at work quoted me £65 to supply and code a 2 button remote for my facelift estate. This was last week.
They keep them in stock and will do it while you wait. You do need the car pass though.

And I guess the car pass is the security thing mentioned on a post about fobs that you have to get from Vauxhall? The battery in the remote we have seems to be getting weak. Can I just open it up and replace, or will it lose its memory and need reprogramming? Thanks for the help as always

Yes  :y

,
or will it lose its memory
No

No ..... it might just need synchronising with the car ie ignition on, press lock. The car will lock & then unlock ...... that's it!  ;)

Tell me about it. Used to work in parts dept at a Ford and Rover dealer. £100 ish for most Ford's with one key. Double that for a Rover 75!!!!!

OOFers near our Tech2 peeps should get change from £50 for a brand spankers complete key (pattern blade, pattern transponder, genuine fob) fully programmed. Assuming they have their carpass.

Carpasses are £15-£50, depending on how crap your dealer is.

£50 complete sounds like a bargain to me. Might have to have a ride in the new year, once its running right and serviced, etc

If you can't get it done through an OOFer due to distance ... then a mate of mine used these folks (non-Omega) but rates them extremely highly ...

http://www.carkeyworld.co.uk

He actually snapped his only key, but phoned them and with the number off the key, and the data off the equivalent of the car pass, and a few security checks ... a new key arrived with 48 hours .. and worked perfectly ....

as said .. he rates them .. but I've (touches wood) not had any personal dealings ....

HTH  :)

Round here I'm limited to dealer really, so I'd rather put a few quid in someones pocket off here than the dealer. And its a ride out
