Is there something wrong with my boiler?
« on: 28 February 2013, 19:21:04 »

Hi all.

I've just looked at my last two gas statements and got a real shock. Since the 4th December I've used nearly £250 worth of gas.

Do you think I have a problem with my boiler?

The meter readings are: 4th December 6881, 21st Jan 6975, 21st Feb 7093, today 7125.

I have an imperial meter. The boiler is a Worcester Bosch 25Si and I have 2kw gas fire and a gas cooker.

I'm really worried about this as I can't afford to pay this amount.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :y

It depends how long you have it on for and at what temperature you have the thermostat

Thanks. Mine doesn't seem too bad then.

Does anyone know how much a 24kw boiler uses an hour if it's on full?

It's going to get worse, Kate. I can't see any way, given the parlous state of our generating capacity, that we can survive without importing most of our fuel.
The weather will get warmer soon but, take my advice, get some money put away for next winter.

Try and pay it monthly, that way they work the bill out over the year, you still pay the same but it's the same each month rather that an expensive winter and cheap summer ;)

I do pay monthly. I was worried that they would put the payments up as I'm only paying £114 a month for both.

I'm trying to minimise using the central heating at the moment.

Does anyone know whether calor gas heaters are cheap to run?
