I'm trying to minimise using the central heating at the moment.

Does anyone know whether calor gas heaters are cheap to run?

No Kate, they will cost a lot more to heat the flat...... ;)
And they stink.

damned expensive !! especially using small bottles ... 6kg bottle - £20 ish 13kg bottle £25ish  so more than twice the volume for 1/4 more .... 47Kg bottle £70 ish 1kg = 2 litres ish so  tabulating:

6kg = 12 litre at £20 = £1.67 a litre
12 Kg = 24 litres at £25 = £1.05 a litre
47 kg = 94 litres at £70 = £0.74 a litre

yet at an autogas pump I currently pay £0:73.68 but that INCLUDES the additional Road Fuel Duty of £0.33 /kg or 16p a litre .. so the true cost of the LPG I use is about £0.58 a litre

Compare that to the price of a 6Kg bottle .. and then swear very loudly .. :(

Further calculations can be done on using calorific values against cost/litre .. but it is somewhat disheartening .. :(

Your gas supply is decidedly cheaper in the long term..... IMHO

I was quoted £69.99 including delivery for a 47Kg last week ... and supposedly that was a "special deal" as I am (was) a regular customer :(

Bloody Nora!

I pay £36 a month for Gas -

7yr old property, 2 Bed, Gas Central Heating, Gas for Hot Water, Gas Hob.

I suppose the £36 is an average over the year though.....  Summer is obviously much cheaper than Winter for Gas usage.

I have just last week had my annual statement, and I'm £5.36 in credit on actual values (proper meter readings submitted by me every 3 months).

My house is really old and doesn't have double glazing.

I guess that makes it cost more to heat.

It certainly will.  If you own, it might be worth having a chat with one of the local Double Glazing installers.  You can get good Government grants to have this done, along with Cavity wall insulation (if you even have cavities) and loft insulation, not to mention Grade A boilers for silly money.

Even if you rent, get on the case of the landlord and get him/her to get it sorted.

Even if it costs you a few quid, a loan to cover the cost may work out (monthly) less than the energy bills!

In October we were quoted £58 for each 47 KG propane. We agreed on five for £250. Still far too expensive, but the best offer available. It's always worth shopping around.

Exchanged contracts on 9-11-2012. Asked the vendors if they would put the heating on programme to come on 2 hours in the morning and 4 in the evening. Actually moved in on 13-11-2012. Bill from E-on. £131:00... Our supplier took over middle of December, total payable to E-on. £230:00. Something tells me that the meter reading before we took residence was slightly under what it should have been ??
