Week or 2 ago, my (infinity) broadband went down, somewhat intermittently.

Did plenty of first line checks myself, swapping every cable out etc to no avail.

BT decided it was my home hub.  I didnt beleive them, the white modem possibly, but not the hub.

Anyway, they sent one (as it happens perfect service kicked back in before it arrived)

Swapped it out when it arrived, and sent the 'faulty' one back.

Few days later it came to my attention none of my servers were accessible from outside...Hmmm must have sent my NAT up wrong, weird as thats almost impossible with a HH, but there you go.

No, all fine... Hmmmm..... Google.

Bt have 2 home hub 3's rev a and ref b.  I must have had a rev b before, and they had sent a rev a, which has a pretty major flaw of port forwarding not working! 

One email sent to BT outlining the problem, and a rev B model dispatched within 2 hours!

So fair play to BT on service...But come on!  a router that port forwarding doesn't work on!  inexcusable.

I know the home hub is a simple, basic device to suit the masses, and 99% wont notice that fault, but even so.  Shocked me.

If you dont forward ports, dont worry about it, router has been rock solid in operation apart from that.

If it does bother you, open a port, run a test port scan and see if yours is affected...If it is, Ill happily send you what I sent them, as it clearly works

Ohhh and the backup and restore function is piss poor too..

You back it up, think sorted, can restore my backup to my new hub...

Ohh no, you can only restore to the same exact hub!  so if you knacker your settings, your ok, but for a swap out its no use at all.  grrrr

Don't fully understand the techy bits, but I have a BT Hub (infinity), and I forward ports with no problems at all

HH3 (both A and B) are OK for the sort of customers BT Retail want. They occasionally lock up, esp on the ADSL side of things, but easily sorted with the convenient reset switch. The wifi is poor by todays standards as well, although BT will say its the best, quoting a single, quite old review of one.

If you try and do anything advanced with it, its very poor. It either doesn't work, or it falls over.

I won't use them any more. Hence I have a pile of the business version of HH3s stacked up here. Fortunately, as they accept Plusnet IDs, unlike earlier hubs, I can send them to mum, who gets through them like Kevin Wood gets through port.

Infinity? If so, you'll definately get a HH3. For your needs, it will be ideal. You may have the occasional lockup, but I think you'll find it ideal for your needs.

Total Broadband? Luck of the draw, some customers still get HH2. More robust TBH, but very weak wifi.

Well, if you dont mind 54Mbs tho i believe it can be set to 108Mbs I've a spare Netgear WG102 going spare here......its just a wifi access point, so you'd have to plug it into your router, disable wifi on the router and let this do the wifi. Dunno what TB thinks of them, but there suppose to be a business type device. Free to an OAP

Suck it and see when its all fitted.

your all doing it wrong,get down to argos and purchase an alba modem with built in router and secondary hub incase the router goes down,it connects with gayphones,lappies,towers and tech 2,s.puts out 285000000 mbpms and accepts inward ports and sideway ports it eats forward ports for breakfast and can swallow an adsl along with its long battery life and only using 3xaaa its a bargain at only £4.67 its part of the value range and puts others to shame
