The ‘bedroom tax’ is not actually a tax. Rather, it is a reduction in the amount of housing benefit paid to those who — according to the local authority — have spare capacity in their homes. :y

That is in next Tuesday's budget a £1 a poke, with assumption that you do it at least 5 times a week. Those that want to claim less can do so, but your name, address and claimed reduction will go on a public register, that all can view.  :o :o :o :o :o :o

im on the telly towards the end of the month because this dose not give thaught to people like me who are disabled and there wife has to use the spare room to sleep in some times
plus where do they think i will find 14% of my rent from  my benefits this rule dose not aply to private renting so they are going after the people who are in social houseing people like me cant do a few more hours work to make up the differance
if we down size one of us will have to sleep in the lounge plus the council have done £ 40,000 worth of adaptations to my home so i can live there they will have to do the same to the house if we move what a waste of money no thought has been taken on thie its just hit them and hit them hard for one i dont know what im going to do  >:( >:( >:(

At LA discretion

He also said he would advise local authorities that discretionary support should remain in place for other "priority groups" such as disabled people whose homes have had to be significantly adapted and those with long-term medical conditions which create difficulties in sharing a bedroom.

Seems to cover ozzycats position quite clearly.

In my opinion it is fair simply because people who rent privately only get what the state deem necessary for their requirements and pay housing benefit accordingly. For example a single person needs a bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom and if the average rent for that kind of accomodation in the locale is £60 per week then that is the amount paid. If they wish to live in a larger property then they contribute to the rent. So why should a single person in social housing in say a three bedroom house have all their rent paid regardless of their needs? If someone is disabled and two people live in the property then the requirement increases and so should the amount of housing benefit.

So you either pay  housing benefit covering all rent to all claimants whether private or social housing regardless of actual need or you restrict benefit to actual need. You simply can't go on discrimating against those who rent privately it must be an even playing field.

No they don't!!!! They pay what they deem a person needs, it was changed several years ago. The council would pay all the rent on a private property but after a change in the system if you moved you only got what was deemed you needed
