iPod / iTunes question
« on: 23 March 2013, 14:31:02 »

I've just purchased a iPod touch of flea bay for a steal or so I thought.

32 gig's worth of music and video's of which about half I want to keep and the other half I want to dump.
So ............. downloaded iTunes, plugged the device into the laptop and pressed sync.
After a second or two, I get a message telling me that I need the previous owner's iTunes password to back the device up  >:(

As far as I can tell, there is no way I can back up any of the music on the iPod.

The idea was to dump the crap I didn't want and fill up the space with my own music.

Is there anyway round this ?

Oh you want to keep whats on there? But you've only bought the device, you've not bought the music. If its iTunes sourced music, it's ownership cannot be transferred, Apple rules.

You either need to factory reset it and just use the device for yourself, or get the passcode if you want to take the content off.

Unless its a jailbroken pod? (this thread will get borderline in that case)

All of this is exactly why I won't buy iAnything.

I have a Sony Walkman MP3 player, works just like a USB disk drive, copy, delete, etc all no problem. No user names, no passwords, no nothing except what you actually want to do.  :y OK, not as stupidly easy as iTunes, but I can live with that.

Jail broken means you can access the system files & install applications not approved by apple, also gives you direct access to the music without iTunes.

But to be honest, if you are asking what it is, you will struggle to get the music off.

You either need to get the code, or just accept you've lost the music

I did this for my one of my sons a while back, I cant really remember how I did it, it was using SonyPCcompianion from memory theres a feature in there that lets you copy iPhone Media Content to a Xperia phone, fairly sure I saved it to the Hard Drive rather than the phone, might be worth a play.

Probably need to download the lastest SonyPCcompianion from somewhere though.

It gives 'different' access.

It can see and copy my music...not that any was bought on itunes though.

It may suit your needs.
