Some Random Questions

  • 1) Are the 3.0 and the 3.2 camshafts different? If so, wouldn't it be better to use the 3.2 cams to upgrade the 2.6 instead of using 3.0 cams like some suggest? What addition gains would the 3.2 cams have over the 3.0?

    2) Can you use 3.2 cams in a 3.0 / 2.5? 

    3) Does the 2.6 use the same forged steal crankshaft as the 3.2?

    4) Can you use the forged crank from the 3.2 in a 2.5 / 3.0 engine?

Random questions but they help keep my brain cells busy. :)  :y

You can upgrade your 2.5 mig with using 3.0 cams. After all it seems logic that you can upgrade your 2.6 with 3.2 cams but not sure of relation of 3.0/2.6 or 3.2/2.5 though... :)

my personal view is that no point to hack the car I'd rather buy a stronger if really needed.  ;)

According to this thread the 2.6 does not have a forged crankshaft like the 3.2 does.

Yes, the 3.2 is biased slightly more towards emissions than the 3.0.

Yes but, the 3.0 cams are considered the prefered route and are much easier to get.

No

4) Can you use the forged crank from the 3.2 in a 2.5 / 3.0 engine?

No reason why not

1) What gains would the 3.2 cams have over the 3.0 though? any reason why the 3.0 cams are preferred over the 3.2? (aside from availability?)

2) You mentioned emissions. Does that mean the 3.2 cams make up less emissions yet still keeps the performance gains?

3) What gains would the 2.5 engine see using the 3.2 cams over the 3.0 cams?

4) If I used the 3.2 cams in a 3.0 what gains are to be had over the standard ones? Just trying to get an idea what the difference is.

5) Would the 3.2 crank have any benefit (aside from being more durable) in a 2.5 / 2.6 / 3.0? As in, was the forged crank any lighter?

6) Were the block/pistons/rods etc more stronger in the 3.2 then the 2.5 / 3.0? Or are they the same in terms of durability?


Oh, and I have a couple of questions regarding the autoboxes. I know they have an NM rating difference (250nm vs 350nm) however:


7 ) Does the AR35 have different gearing ratio to the AR25? If so, what effect would this have when used on a 2.5 / 2.6?

8 ) Assuming the AR35 is built stronger, would the additional weight of the gears cause any performance loss if you used an AR35 in a 2.5 / 2.6?

jabe, you can increase the bore size of 2.5 , 2.6 whatever you use and play with the volume.. the machining shop can tell you how much they can bore safely..  also 3.0 and 3.2 have longer strokes..  so by changing crank you can also increase volume.. but if performance is your man goal , your best bet is to increase valve sizes and
the heads inlets and exhaust must be polished.. but I must note you will loose some torque at low rpms..

3.2_____87.5___88

ps: I'm assuming you wont try forced induction..
 
pps: if you are making these mods on an auto forget it.. you are loosing most of the power from the autobox ..

3,0 cams in a 2,5 + ecu remap = approx 210hp (it was 208,6 in my old omega with 290.000km on the clock)

2.5 responds well to 3.0 cams along with 3.2 exhaust manifolds (better flow) :y might also be able to use the 3.0 ECU, but someone wiser will confirm.

Ignore the AR25 if you're looking to tune the engine, the AR35 is much stronger :y not sure about the auto gearing, depends on the engine that the box was originally fitted to :-\

Guys guys! I know! Really, I do! Lol. You don't have to suggest tuning tips, its not what I'm after. I'm only after knowledge, and curiosity is my weakness!

As I said, its just a bunch of questions that are swarming in my head. That's all. It would be lovely if I could get answers to them as they're constantly bugging me and I'd probably end up asking again lol.  ;D

For example has anyone ACTUALLY used 3.2 cams in a 2.5 before? If so, what are the results, etc etc!
