Very likely to be caused by water or dirt getting into the selector switch on the side of the gearbox.

Have a read of this collection of notes on the gearbox selector switch Auto Gearbox Selector Switch Cleaning

More likely to be the selector than the ECU ...... garages almost always a failed ECU because it's a cover all diagnosis  ;)  ;)

Clean or get the switch cleaned, & if you still have problems the car needs to go on a proper diagnostic code reader ....  cheaper in the long run than guessing.  :y

Hi i have the same problem, yet, after cleaning and replacing back i shifter will light up in the D position and the whole thing lights up in the thrid position.  once started it will go in to rev. nicely but i have to wait 2 to 4 min. for the drive to kick in.  any idea

1) put in new plastic arm to the elements were like new
2) check to made sure that the casing was clean
3) check to see if metal tracks are ok that the elements arms ride on.

now i see the post on how to clean but do you put oil in side, and if so what kind?

thanks  i love my car, and want to kept it for as long as i can :y
