Update - had a phone call today from Direct Line following their receipt of my letter confirming my verbal cancellation of policy renewal, and my advice that their customer loyalty guy (named in the letter) should be retrained to deal politely and sensibly with customers. Upshot was that they agreed with my comments as they had listened to the tape of the conversation, and they confirmed that they did have my SP30 on their system, and that I had notified them in January 2012. All errors theirs!! Bit late as my new policy came into effect noon today.
They seemed a bit miffed when I advised I will also not be renewing the policy on the Omega when that comes up for renewal in a couple of months time.
Apparently I will be receiving a letter from them detailing the actions they have taken with respect to the guy I spoke to initially - if they don't retrain him, I hope they give him directions to the nearest Job Centre
