Hi guys,

See this vid of my mates' 2.0L 04 plate Hyundai Coupe...

It's obviously squealing quite bad. There's a faint squeal at idle when wheel is straight but as soon as you turn left full lock it starts howling like a mental case (does NOT happen when full lock right).

I lubricated the belt to see if it was perhaps the belt itself but it didn't have any change. The belt is perfectly tensioned as well and the belt is in good condition. Nothing is loose.

When my mate first showed me the problem whilst turning left the pulley actually slowed down and then STOPPED briefly before spinning again making an even worse racket!  :o

So where to go with this... is it a PAS pump or could it be a problem with the rack?

Cheers guys  :y

Ps, I just played back the video and although the squealing is quite low that's clearly just a bad video.... in real life it was howling like a wolf!  :D

PS, PS, (sorry lol)

this is the pump assembly from the back so if it is a replacement then presumably its a simple case of taking the belt off and removing those fasteners at the back and replace pump :)

If the pulley stops under load either the belt is knackered or loose, those rib belts need to be proper tight :y

If the steering does not have tight spots to coincide with the noise it may not be the pump but the belt ,retension

just to add some additional info... theres no play in the tie rod ends on either side. and the steering when done by hand is nice and light

lmao that is an option I suppose martin  ;D ;D

I think what ill do is alter the tension and if that doesn't solve it (got my doubts as the belt is perfectly tensioned) ill replace the pump  :y worst case scenario is that doesn't fix it and he can re-sell the part on eGay  :y

Will do. cheers martin  :y

i'm presuming all I do is loosen that red looking fastener and pull the PAS pump to tighten it more then tighten the fastener up again? i'm thinkin I may also have to loosen up that bottom one too  :-\
