I  expect it does work.  You're running up to 6.8V through a device intended for 3.4 or less though, not good for it. Don't do it you only have the one key.

A simpler method is to hold the key to your head, just above your ear, before pressing.  It adds a few feet as demonstated on Top Gear once.  Try it, it does work, no idea why.

The fob on my Merc can open the car from that far away, it's re-locked itself by the time you get to the car! What's the point?

All doors except the front passenger side open and close on mine when I use the remote.

Any idea what my problem might be?

Not too bad tbh
Door open
interior door trim off
Peal back the plastic and you will see it  :y
I used white grease on all mine when they started sticking but some prefer copper slip.
Give all movable bits a good coat and try again.
If it still doesn't want to play, check for volts on the plug.
You should get a 12 volt pulse when you hit the button.
If you get volts but it doesn't want to play then i'd suspect the solenoid itself.
Remember to tape up the plastic fully or you will get wind noise  ;)

Give yourself half a hour to do it

Penis size pub bragging rights

That said, some Vauxhalls are particularly bad for some reason.
