Too hot cant sleep :/
« on: 07 June 2013, 02:44:48 »

Going to have to get a fan or one of those portable a/c units. Haven't had a decent nights sleep since it started to feel like summer. At least the a/c is working in the omega for during the day  :y

 :o :o :o

I have just crossed your name off "The Varche Summer Party List". Sorry

Over the years I have concluded that once the bedroom temperature is more than 25 Deg C that is when it is too hot. We have tried everything and our preferred method is a ceiling fan but you do need a minimum ceiling height. Pay a bit of money and get one that is quiet in op and maybe has a remote.

If it is any consolation, once you are through the menopause you will feel more comfortable. ;D ;D

In the last week we have fitted thick blackout linings in our bedroom window - they just hang on the backs of the curtains.

They are amazing in that the room is now totally dark whereas before daylight would start coming through as soon as the sun starts to rise. It certainly helps out big-time in the morning but are not so sure they will have that much impact late at night. However, they will certainly stop/improve the issue of waking up at stupid o'clock with the sun streaming in and then not being able to go back to sleep.

Worked out at about £30 for a pair with ceiling to floor drops.

My sis made our curtains, and we had blackout linings in the front bedroom ones (stitched between material and backing lining). Downside is they are very heavy, and thus air from the open windows doesn't blow in as well :(. Hence the fan

We had to get a fan a couple of days ago. What a difference, lovely cool air, and the noise is hypnotic.

Go the A/C route, we have one and it brings the room temperature down quickly and it cuts in and out on the thermostat during the night which is quiet enough not to wake you up and it still allows you to snuggle up under the duvet. The only downside is that you will have to have a window open around 4 inches or so to allow the unit to vent the hot air, basically the same as the tumble dryer on some washing machines. We're thinking of getting a permanent vent put into  the wall so that we can keep the windows closed on those rare occasions when the A/C is in use :y

I've a 24" fan for the same reason.
Just plug it in and leave it on the landing with the landing window open / bedroom doors open.
It just keeps the air moving around which is enough

Got home at midnight following a day trip to Munich yesterday and the bedroom was like an oven. All the windows open, Mrs. KW complaining about the heat.

Turns out the rather microswitch in one of the central heating zone valves had failed (again!) leaving the boiler running all day into the towel rail in the en-suite. ;D One sharp tap to the zone valve and it stopped. Another job on the list. ::)
