Project "No Fear" out of operating theatre- alive!
« on: 17 May 2008, 20:27:14 »

Makie and me spent the whole of today putting the 2.0 engine back together.

Progress was slow due to silly little snags, but we got there in the end.

He cleaned the block, while I fitted the exhaust manifold and DIS etc to the head. We then lifted the head on, and went from there.
He then started getting the inlet manifold and throttle body and all those gubbins on, while I did the cambelt, aux belt etc.

I was a bit concerned about the cheap nasty pattern head bolts, but I didn't break one !

When I filled up with coolant we had a leak. Mirror showed it to be coming from the stat housing, so we ditch the ill fitting pattern seal, and use the original one with some sealant. Job done!

When we worked out the firing order, on with the leads and turn the key.

She fired up first time and ran on all 4 which was excellent.  :y

I'm also pleased to report that there is now no more pressurising of the coolant system and the smell of petrol isn't coming through the header tank, so the skim and new head gasket seems to have cured the problem!

The EML was on before the strip down, and despite everything being confirmed as being plugged in correctly, was on after.

Quick paperclip has shown 0130 Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen (HEGO) sensor so I suspect I need to try a different Lambda?

Otherwise, all went well. Tomorrow, I will be doing the ATF and giving it a general service and a good clean, and then get some short term insurance and go for a test drive!
(Maybe over to Tech2 land  ::)  ;D )

Job well done James & Markie.
It's allways good to do something yourself instead of at a garage, because you stand back proud of what you've done  :y :y :y

Good stuff chaps, as soon as I get a driveway, I'll be doing more of the same, probably less fixing and more breaking though. :y
