So, Sony kicked Microsofts backside...
« on: 16 June 2013, 12:06:08 »

...according to BBC,s click programme, in the latest console wars.

Stories of overly restrictive games licenses, and xbox1 requiring connection to the web on a daily basis have cirtainly put me off my previoisly preferred Xbox game platform.

Although, it does appear to have more features as an entertainment hub and, crucially, has finally cought up with HD capability. What ever next  :o  ;D

My father told me about this this morning. How can it want daily internet access, I mean what about when someone goes on a holiday or the like.
Surely someone has reported this wrongly. But if true I would think it is an own goal for the xbox.

also key is PS4 is close to £100 cheaper too, I much, much prefer the xbox controllers, PS3 ones gave me aching thumbs.

Really need to have a go with latest controllers, see if Sony ones have changed much.

I have hated some of the additions to xbox's OS, such as those stupid character things at the bottom right. WTF is with those stupid bloody things   >:(

Media Centre extender, which is something i know little fatty will mention is of no benefit to me.

I tend to (apart from occasional SkyGo use) tend to use my xbox for games only, looks like Sony have done a better job. On paper at least  :-\

Its a fork in the road for me. I no longer expect to have to choose between 360 for games, and ps3 for Blu ray / hub.

Pre release, I expect adding an HD player to Xbox would do the job. Seems not.

Seperate Media centre is if no use to me either. In fact, given the level of technology available ATM, I expect the Xbox1 to replace that as well.

At least (at launch) there is something to distinguish them, which should be handy for those looking at buying the latest generation.

Trouble is, the gaming market has shrunk drastically, so is there room for 2 big boys? Hope so, as competition has been great since MS released the original Xbox.

Ultimately, it will be the games that decide a console's fate. Wii has been massively successful, despite being an underpowered, old technology (its basically a GameCube with an added ARM) console. Kinect has given the aging Xbox360 a new lease of life, as if brings in a different kind of gamer, the type Ninentendo cornered.

That said, I suspect pre (true) launch artificial 'dangle berries' that MS has put in will be loosened quite dramatically.

I saw a statement by someone from microsoft - may have been a press release.
"There is a product for people who don't want to use online services - it's the XBox360"
Very first comment was
"You spelt PS4 wrong"

Often easily get them less, but it's well spent in my view, played Battlefield 3 for hours!

Some are happy to spend £50 down the pub in a single night, games give months of play. At the end of the day it's all down to what people want, we are all individual :)

The difference is tho - you pay £50 for the game.
Play it then sell it on after a month, get £25-30 back

With the xbox1, download the game for £50.
Thats it.
No second hand market.

Bloody Londoners ;D

I made it down the pub on Friday night, got in a mucking fuddle, went to the Indy Gindy, had more beer and some cheap whisky, and certainly didn't spend £50. In fact I have far too much money left over - something that has confuddled me, I'm doubting myself if we paid for the curry :o

There have been hints that this restriction may get lifted.

If they don't, the eggsbox is dead in the water - especially at £100 more than the PS4

good thing is, PS3's will be cheap next year - I might get round to buying one when they're down to £50 with a load of games :.)

Have always preferred the xbox myself. Only ever bought PS's because Gran Turismo wasn't available for Xbox. Don't know what to make of this new xbox so far, still waiting on proper details. Will take a lot to put me off xbox and even if it does require daily online access my 360 is online most of the time anyway even though I seldom play online.

P.s been playing Dead Island Riptide past few weeks and it is excellent!!

Forza kicks turismo's arse IMO.

So that's one for Xbox. :-\
