I do not understand how cam or crank sensor failure would cause 'all dash lights on, power steering going', etc. There is a mystery here.
Engine's stalled - thats whats caused all dash lights to come on and no power steering ::)
It happened to me with the car in gear and still bowling along. I was in a manual Senator, but it was an eerie experience. Dash lights on etc seems hardly worth mentioning if the engine has stopped. It was a bit similar when the aux belt pulley seized on my 2.5 Omega manual, but then the cause was obvious and the belt failed. On the Senator the belt survived. Car in this thread is an auto.

First time the crank sensor failed on the MV6, I was tanking along through France at a decent speed, first thing I noticed was the MID flagged up gearbox fault, followed quickly by most of the dash lights coming on one at a time. I'd automatically lifted off the throttle as soon as MID warning came on, so there was a moment or two when I hadn't realised it had stalled. Fortunately, I had enough momentum to coast to next slip road, at which point I noticed how heavy the steering was without power ;D

thanks for all your views on this matter ,just got back from garage they stuck a code reader on it but to no avail as it would no read any faults , been advised that it could be crank sensor or petrol pump in boot ? would that be a cause ?? tx again all Ree.

Clean the ICV and breathers before you start replacing parts, follow the guide in the maintenance section.

hi peeps again update on my cutting out issues, just had crank sensor replaced with original part replaced petrol pump and top plate got it all back 2gether took it for a spin not 2mins up road just stopped again  :'( have not done cam sensor im running out of ideas  :-[ ticks over at 8/9 thou revs when put into drive it drops down to below 4/5 ? and rev counter does sometimes waves up and down but perfect in park or neutral, after changing pump would I have got a air lock if so will it clear itself ? or do I need to bleed it somewhere ?

how many miles has the icv done, on my old 2.0ltr I could only get about 90/100k miles out of one before it was scrap, symptoms your describe are similar to those that I experienced , but not quite identical !
