2.6 Automatic cuts out and restarts after 10 mins

I was driving home tonight at around 55 mph when the car cut out and stopped. After about 10 mins it started and ran fault free for the next 12 miles home. It appears that something electrical overheated and when cooled down was ok. I know that there was similar problems with a relay on cavaliers, any pointers? I do not have access to a code reader for the 2.6 only 2.5

Look in the maintenance guide  index under "Code Reading" for "pedal trick"  to read codes on the 2.6

No code reader required with this method to get codes out .

Possible crank sensor IMO  :-\  code is 0335   for that

+1 - Crank Sensor fecked ;)

Read codes to confirm - although failed crank sensor does not always throw a code

Mine never threw any codes (two different code readers). Just knew by the symptoms!

If it restarted and correctly ran OK, you may find code autodeleted.

Certainly sounds like cranksensor.

please use a gen vx part as pattern will fail in no time and you will swear lots. ;D

Thanks for the info, havn't had chance to look at the car today due to the rain, broke down again last night and I had to be recovered. I have ordered a genuine crank sensor which I should receive on Tuesday. Will inform result.

I didn't get henceforth to check codes as I was at hospital post op check up and had to pass VX dealer on way. Checked codes this morning, 0420, 0430 & 0335. I'll pour a couple of bottles of Cataclean in which has cured this problem in the past. Thanks again everyone.D

sorry for butting in but that's spooky my mv6 2.6 just broke down about 2 hours ago done pedal code trick got 0335 so can't get one till monday from dingbro vauxhall none for a few days and aa taken car to local garage i know. would dingbro parts be ok?

Ignore all other codes until the cs is changed.
