thats better to be honest, how about just his/her dogs basket in the middle in the back?

As long as that lead is fairly short.

Should be fine with just the bag but without the seatbelt i presume it will still move unless the owner does something and holds the bag thing should be perfect and its waterproof  :-* ;D

or one of these

And to answer a question with a question. If being transported on a plane or train where would it be.
Therefore what is wrong with the boot secured in one of these. It's a dog not a child, would not be "in" any of my cars.
By the way I do like dogs.

(get's coat and makes quick exit)

Na the winging would do my head in if was in the boot.

What do you expect putting the dog in the boot ::)

Seriously, if it is worrying you this much, just don't take them, dog and all.

Seriously. I'll just have to get something like that dog bag pouch and be done with it everything else is set in motion apart from this dog seating arrangement set back.

Sure, if you want the dog to overheat a puke all over the place, then putting it in a bag/box in the middle of the car and away from the windows will be fine ::)

I really do think this problem is being over thought..... ::) ::) If the dog is housetrained and with it's owner, what is the problem, from what you have said it is likely to sit on owners knee; if you really want to solve the problem go and buy an estate..... ::) ::) ::)

Leave the air con on should be cold enough for it.

It is as much about airflow as temperature, starting to worry about the dog now tbh :-\
