libre office is a version of the old open office that was designed and built by sun micro systems, who I believe where making computers when bill gates and steve jobs where in diapers. still think its better than ms office !
Not quite. Actually, not even that close. Sun Microsystems bought StarOffice during the dotcom boom (rumoured to be because it was cheaper than kitting out their staff with MS Office - ironically, a hardware and OS company were using somebody else's hardware, OS and applications

), and opensourced part of it (which became OpenOffice) which was one of their development strategies at the time, like OpenSolaris.
When Oracle bought Sun Microsystems, Oracle tried to step back from the opensource model, as they follow a strictly proprietry model, so a fork, LibreOffice, was made.
As to your history lesson, miles off. Both Bill Gate's (and Paul Allen's) Microsoft and Steve Job's (and Steve Wozniak's and a 3rd member I can never remember) Apple Computer were formed in the mid 1970s. Sun Microsystems didn't start until the early 1980s. So it was Scott McNealy who was in short trousers when MS and Apple were formed
