Omega 2.2 diesel 03 plate running hot
« on: 14 July 2013, 16:12:40 »

Hi All, a bit of advise required.

I am having an issue where occasionally the red oil light is coming on. This is only after being in traffic, on investigation I have found the following.
1) If I take a feed from battery to either/both fans, fans come on as they should. So ruled out a fan issue.
2) Even when temp gadge reading 90 degrees no fan may be on.
3) Usually full speed fan has kicked in when checking.
4) I am sure the care used to run about 80 degrees.
5) It feels like the large hose pipes have no water in them when you squeeze them. Is this normal ? How do you bleed these beasts ?
6) Could it be the thermostat not fireing on the low setting. If so where is the thermostat ?
7) Temp reading never goes over just past 90 degrees.
8) Water is at normal level in the expansion resiviour.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Just to be clear you say oil light is on could this not be faulty oil pressure switch like on my old miggy DTi, have low pressure in water hoses is a good thing as long as the header tank has coolent at the correct levels its in good health it's when it has either no coolent or the pipes go tight you should be worried

Low oil pressure in a high mileage engine when warm/hot is ok as long as the light goes out the instant you touch the throttle :y

That is good to hear, it goes out as soon as the throttle is pressed.

Just strange that it suddenly is running this hot. and the fans are not activating at lower temps

Do the fans switch on when the aircon is working?,they should run then

Not always, although I have noticed if the aircon is on the fans are more likly to run.

Oil pressure switch.  :y

I should add, this is 99% of the time the reason the Oil light comes on on a DTI. Nothing to do with a worn engine  ;) Change that first (easy) and then worry about the other things. If the temp never goes over 90 then there's not a lot wrong.

I think it is worth noting that the Oil Pressure Light and the operation of the cooling fans are totally unrelated.  :y
