Worn ignition-solved
« on: 20 July 2013, 22:54:37 »

Had the old prob with ignition barrel getting sticky/clicky due to worn tumbler thingies, rather than start filing the burrs off them I swapped them for the identical ones in the glovebox lock, good as new! Left them out of the glovebox one as it's hardly thief proof anyway.

Not sure where the thread is now, but I bought new tumblers for a few quid ...... they are from your way somewhere.  :y

Now that's a good idea. It seems to me. :y

My key is fine going in and put of the lock. Its turning it back and forth that feels awful. But only in hot weather. :-\

Must have a look some time. Another job. ::) :(

Can't find my thread, but this is the place I got new tumblers from. Just phone them , tell them how many of each number tumbler you want.  :y

That's common for Vauxhall locks(happens on BMWs too).  I've seen three in the last two weeks. Definitely time for maintenance/replacement before it stops working in a really inconvenient/expensive way

Agreed. strip the barrel and deburr all the lock levers, then add a little graphite powder. Also make sure the little pin at the end is moving smoothly in the barrel casting.

Do this before it strands you, and it's an easy fix. ;)

So shall I have the AA waiting for me at Luton long stay on my return. After the car has been outside unused in 30c heat for 10 days?

That was my exact thought as i waved goodbye to it from the back seat of the bus.
