Visiting The Lakes
« on: 30 July 2013, 19:54:15 »

Not many of you lot wanted to go so I've gone to Keswick on my own ;D .......oh, and the wife of course.  :)

Lovely part of the country but possibly a bit too far for me for just a weekend, so I'm here for a few days.  :y A fairly good trip up and the car used about a quarter of a tank to do the 270 mile journey, running a journey average of 58mpg at mostly 70'ish according to the computer.  :o :o ........errr no not the Omega.  ::) ;D
And no, my house isn't empty, there are probably more people in it now than when I left.  ::) ;D Kids eh.  ;D

Any suggestions on places to visit. Done Derwent Water boat trip today and a fair bit of walking but need to keep Mrs YZ happy.  :) :)

They may very well be my last if I climbed up there.  ;D ;D :y

Would love to do it though.  :y
Just looking at Helvellyn, why is it that no matter how high man climbs, a bloody sheep has gone higher.  ;D ;D

Pencil Museum and a couple of car museums in Keswick.

TBH, its more of a walking/sightseeing place.  Thirlmere is worth a drive around. Obviously the passes - Wrynose and Hardknott, and the pass (forgotten name) at the end of Derwent Water where the slate mine (also worth a visit - esp if the RAF are practicing in the valley).

I found Sellafield interesting, but nowadays, you can only just go around the visitor centre.

Obviously the passes - Wrynose and Hardknott,

Mrs egg refuses to go back to the lakes after a (grossly exaggerated) incident where the passenger side wheels of a ford Ka courtesy car *might* *possibly* have gone over the edge of a particular part of wrynose pass. A little bit. But I couldn't possibly comment.  ::)  :D

Cheers for all the suggestions. At least I've got something to go on now. I'll hopefully visit as many places as I can if the weather holds out.  :y

Yep, definitely both gone, since around Feb 2011 apparently. I was there today and although the "Cars of the Stars" sign is still up, a sign saying 'massive car sale' is plastered all over it.  :y

Went for a drive around some of the places suggested today. Mrs YZ was not at all happy on some of the narrow roads with a drop on the nearside.  ;D ;D
